I HAVENT brushed or combed my hair in about 4 months....?

is this making it healthier???

i mean i comb it out with my hands in the shower %26amp; when i get out of the shower but thats it i dont use hair tools.

i have really THICK CURLY biracial [hispanic/black] hair...

and i dont have white/black hair where its thin %26amp; smooth curls...i have really unruley curly hair

i heard that brushing really curly hair is a no no bcus it causes frizz %26amp; combing curly hair causes breakage.

i mean it seems thiner %26amp; a little bit healthier but i think its just all in my head.

i havent put any kinds of chemicals or anything at all in my hair for a month...all i do is leave in the conditioner [mane %26amp; tail] that i wash my hair with %26amp; style..as you can tell iam trying to get it back to its healthy state like i use to have it when i was younger.

Dont listen to these people!!! They obsiously have not dealt with curly, unruly hair before- it needs complety different treatment. You are right- dont brush it. Now I know all these straight heads are gunna freak out, but DONT wash it either.. WAIT!! ITs not as gross as it sounds!! ITs called the 'curly girl no-poo' routine and you can read about it on the website www.naturallycurly.com. Basically, dont put any sillicones in your hair at all (check the ingredients of your leave-in, gels, mousses, conditioners, whatever, for anything that ends in -cone). Its not that silicones are bad or anything, but SHAMPOOS are, they contain sulphates which wreak havoc on curly hair, drying it out even more, which is the last thing we want.

SO anyway, if u put sillicones on your hair and dont use shampoo, they wont come out- you will end up with gross build up. (try and stay away from producst that have proteins added to them too) Surprisingly enough, conditioner will get your hair fairly clean without even using shampoo, just stay away from those '-cones.'

So there you go- wash your hair with conditioner, throw away any products with a '-cone' in the ingredients, only brush hair with your fingers, use leave in conditioners and moisturing hair masks, thats about it. A lot of curly girls are doing this routine now- it really makes a difference. Anyway, check out that website, it was a real lifesaver for me.

Hope this makes sense!! Good luck.

PS: dont give up and straighten your hair- we curly girls rock!!!

Good for you.......so your question is?

I HAVENT brushed or combed my hair in about 4 months....?

I dont think its making your hair any healthier...

I HAVENT brushed or combed my hair in about 4 months....?

If it looks OK to you, continue. Doubt the practice is making it healthier, but, hey, it's your hair and your appearance.

I HAVENT brushed or combed my hair in about 4 months....?

Oh no.. I guess that makes your hair a haven for bacteria and all sort of germs,, A shampoo would be nice though the chemical can get too strong. Just use it every other day or thrice a week. It's also good to drink lots of water and get enough sleep.

i could never go a week without brushing my hair becuse it takes 20 minutes every day just to comb it and my hair is thin. i say comb it twice a day very gently. and have your own brush that comforts you the most. good luck!

My daughter is 8 and she washes her hair in the shower at night.Doesn't comb it and goes to school. I think it looks better combed but she likes it this way.

I would say good for you since ur doing shampoo and leave in conditioner mainly. If you wanted you can use like hairspray or something but just make sure there are no parabans in there or SLS (sodium laur... sulf...--ahh i forget) since they are bad for hair's health. the parabans are bad for ur body too while SLS just dries up hair although manyyy hair products (shampoos, conditioners, etc) have it in there. Since your hair is very curly it means it's dry too so ya it doesn't need SLS in there to make it even drier. If you want natural or organic things that doesn't contain those two chemicals, you can just try the local natural foods and products store for it. Also here's a site that helps you choose good products for not the health of ur hair but also for ur body too: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/index.p...

Also def. do not do that brushing/combing, I have same type of hair like u do too and I noticed there was lotttt less frizz, breakage of hair when I stopped doing them.

Just continue using ur fingers and hands for combing thru hair and you're fine.

Also I think it might seem a bit thinner and a bit healthier cuz I think ur hair grew maybe now to shoulder or midback or somewhere that kinda length. For thick curly hair, the curls would be weighed down by its own weight (it's natural for it) and would be more structured, etc. So unlike in medium or short hair, the curls would be lot more bearable to be w/. That's why it's good to have like atleasttt shoulder length hair or past that for thick curly hair to be tamed more. Since it prob seems lot more straighter to you since its weighed down by its own weight (If i'm right abt ur length of hair), it seems more healthier.

If this works for you, then def continue it. Not only good for ur hair but also for ur body too. :D

bullshit!!no! go %26amp; comb it!! NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS,

YOU NEED TO BRUSH/ COMB YOUR HAIR DAILY.

there are natural oils on your scalp and for distributing those oils, you need to brush your hair daily.

[however, dont overbrush it..] dont continue this please, your ruining your own hair...take care if it!

nope it doesnt make hair healthier...eat healthy if you want healthier hair! you told your not using chemicals, THATS GREAT! stop using all chemicals n heated tools...they damage hair. yeah, of course when we were younger, we may not be using these heated appliances like blow driers , straightners etc....

I HAVENT brushed or combed my hair in about 4 months....?

i have the same kind of hair and i do the same thing theres nothing wrong with it but instead of combing in the shower then when you get out only finger comb it in the shower and dont use any tools because that damages wet hair and dont brush it dry because that will just get it wicked frizzy

I HAVENT brushed or combed my hair in about 4 months....?

Yes, it's health and it's completely normal. Don't listen to some of these stupid people who think you have to brush it daily. That's because they probably have bloody thin, dead straight hair.

Well, I have curly hair, it's soft and loose and has little twirls and I have found it has become better because I haven't probably brushed my hair for two years. Of course I brush it and comb it in the shower but never dry because it'll buff up. So you should do that. Brush your hair in the shower and comb it but never when it's dry, it'll look better.

Most people hate their hair so it's normal. Some days I can't stand mine and I actually like yours, I know it would be hard to maintain but it's pretty hot.

Good luck.

nooo sweetie! you NEED to brush your hair! not brushing it isnt strengthening your hair or making it healthier... i have thick and curly hair too and if i dont brush it.. it falls out in big chunks at a time.. all you need to do is use protection cream//gel//mousse. and leaving the conditioner in might dry your scalp out a little bit... you might not notice it.. but it does.

my friend who has tight curly curly hair like leona lewis (before she uses rolers like on the cover of a moment like this) she never brushes her hair when its dry unless its straightened. But when her hair is wet she uses a wide toothed comb and then a finetoothed comb then she either just leaves it or blow dries it. her hair is really healthy soft and beautiful!! maybe u should use her method cos i dont think that is making ur any healthier

If it is working for you and if it is presentable then do not change a thing. Unless you want to change the style.

But it is all up to you.

At first I was shocked by the Q?, it is the only thing I saw, but you are taking care of it regularly by washing.

Your way of managing your hair hair, is fine.

Tools are used to manage tit any way, depends on the style.
