LOL I agree with Simply Me. And why do white girls constantly brush there hair even though nothing is wrong with it. We could go back and forth all day. But no one really wears a afro anymore so I don't know where you've seen that

I'd say It's just a fad. Most people whether white, black, hispanic or asian are actually relatively conservative and do not follow fads. However, there are sizeable minorities among each group who do.

Whites rarely follow the same fads that blacks do but they still have their fair share of them too. I remember in 1963, the English Mod look with thick hair spray and eye-shadow and the mini-skirt was just becoming popular with white teenage girls in America. My Aunt Elizabeth and I saw a girl like that one day in a shopping mall. My aunt, who was very old-school was shocked and said "She looks awful! If she was my daughter I'd beat the c*r*a*p out of her."

Conservative people who do not follow fads are usually bewildered by people who do, often labling them as goofy or stupid looking. That's not unusual. Sometimes they are right, other times I'd say there is some bias or prejudice there. It depends on what the fad is.

In the 1970's, so-called Afro hair-styles were popular with some young black Americans. Yet, I found that black ex-change students from Africa did not like them or consider them "African." One Nigerian student at the time asked me "Why do they wear their hair that way? It makes their heads look like a forest!" So, all told, faddishness is a complex phenomenon with opinions that come from all directions.
